People who influence distance and blended learning

The list of individuals below is definitely not a comprehensive list of researchers in distance and blended learning.  The list has been compiled based on my becoming familiar with their work through their publications, attendance at conferences, or personal meetings. 

Dr. Terry Anderson
: is a Canada Research Chair in Distance Education and a professor at Athabasca University.  His research is primarily in the the distance arena but he also has interests in other delivery formats.   His blog is located at: http://terrya.edublogs.org/

Dr. Curtis Bonk: is a Professor of Instructional Systems Technology at the School of Education at Indiana University.  He has published widely on eLearning and blended learning. http://php.indiana.edu/~cjbonk/

Dr. Stephen Downes: works with National Research Council, Institute for Information Technology.  He focuses in various forms of online learning and media development for education.  His blog covers a wide range of subjects of interest to online, blended and on-campus instructors, instructional designers and administrators.

Dr. Charles Dziuban: is Director of the Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Central Florida (UCF), a leader in the field of blended learning.

Dr. Randy Garrison: As Director of the Teaching and Learning Center at the University of Calgary, one of the architects of the Community of Inquiry model and my supervisor, I have been influenced by his work in the field.

Dr. Charles Graham: is a professor of Instructional Psychology and Technology with the McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University.  He is well known for his work and presentations on blended learning.

Dr. Joel Hartman
: is Vice-Provost for Information Technologies and resources at the University of Central Florida, a leader in the field of blended learning.  Dr. Hartman has responsibility for the library, computing and networking, media services and distributed learning activities. Amanda Jeffries is the evaluation coordinator of the Blended Learning Unit at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK.  The U of H has invested strategically in blended learning since 2005.

Dr. Robert Kaleta: is director of the Learning Technology Center (LTC) at the University of Wisconsin (Milwaukee) .  The Center helps faculty effectively integrate technology into their courses and transition to blended and online teaching.  He also conducts research in the field.  http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/LTC/

Dr. Michael Moore: is a professor with the Pennsylvania State University and he also edits the American Journal of Distance Education.  He is best known for his Transactional Distance theory which has served as a framework for many researchers active in the distance education field.  http://www.ajde.com/editor.htm

Dr. Carol Twigg
: is is an expert in the use of educational technology.  She is the Executive Director of the Center for Academic Transformation which acts as a resource for colleges by offering advice on effective uses of informational technology to improve learning and reduce costs. http://www.league.org/2004cit/bios/twigg.html
